I have to tell you….I never had more fun making an album than I did with Shlockapella. The project which began last July and was released on March 11th of this year had over 100 hours of studio work at Jeff Horvitch’s studio near Bet Shemesh. I first did over 40 hours of pre-production. It was there that I recorded every note that would eventually be sung. The most amazing part of it was that you are basically singing all the parts that the instruments would generally play. That is so challenging, especially with a Steely Dan or Police song. Anyway, after the pre-production I recorded 16 tracks where myself and Avraham Berk sang every single part in all the songs, whether it be bass or high register vocals. The Maccabeats did a track of their own and Shlomo Katz guest starred on a song as well as Joey Friedman. I brought in Yonatan Hill to sing on two songs and I also had the talented Daniel Brill do the beat box on a bunch of songs. But other than that it is just myself and Avraham Berk who is without a doubt the most talented studio singer that I have worked with both in tone and in register. It is because of this that I have so much joy when listening back to it now. What are my favorite songs? Well it changes….right now it is track 16 – Peace of Mind. I know that you will all love this project! Check it out on the homepage. One click and the download or CD is yours! Be in touch! Lenny
Lots of stuff coming up in the next three weeks! We will be recording the second half of the musical Daniel in Babylon and hopefully going to production by the end of December. We have also just released Derech Haor. The 35th CD release since Shlock Rock started in 1986 and it is awesome! And of course the Chanukah tour which thus far has six shows on the agenda is coming in only one week. So….lots of stuff. But you know what I wanted to talk to you all about? You guessed it! Downloading! When you are in a niche market and you do concerts and music for a living. You need people to buy the products. Now I know, there is you tube and all these file sharing sites and frankly I myself don\’t remember the last CD that I bought. But…I do buy downloads. And so in the spirit of Chanukah and just embracing the world of digital downloads we are introducing three possible deals where you can download entire albums for anywhere from $3.33 per album to $4.16 per album. Isn\’t that outrageous? I mean….what else is there to say. For $100 you receive download links to all 500 or so Shlock Rock songs….I don\’t know the exact number but it is up there. So for the next month, if you grew up on Shlock Rock. If you want to put memories from your childhood or even your present on your MP3. Take advantage of this offer! Here is the link -
Talk to you soon and have a great Chanukah! And Happy Holidays to everyone!!!

It is going to be an amazing year with Gods Help! We have a lot of plans this year in terms of releasing new music and making new videos and projects. As we go into Rosh Hashana I want to just tell everyone that they should treat the next 2 days as a blueprint for the year. The most important two things to keep in mind is to stay positive with positive happy thoughts and whatever happens – do not lose your temper! I will work on these things myself! On behalf of myself, my family and the band I wish you all a Ketiva Vachatima Tova. May we all have a great year full of Health, Happiness and Wealth and may we all be inscribed into the book of life!
Two weeks ago I experienced a top 10 moment in Shlock Rock History. The Hamptons Synagogue led by Rabbi Marc Schneier and Rabbi Avraham Bronstein brought me to the synagogue the weekend of Shabbat Nachamu or August 12-13 as a Musical Scholar in Residence. What happened that Shabbat was no less than amazing. Cantor Netanel Herstik and his musical director Itzhak Haimov and six voice choir took eight of my Beatles/Shabbat tracks and put them into the service. It was the most amazing thing that I have ever heard. My creation was put into the Shabbat Davening and 800 people came to hear it on Shabbat day. Yedid Nefesh to Yesterday, Lecha Dodi to 8 Days a Week and Penny Lane, ViShamru to The Long and Winding Road and finally Yigdal to When I’m 64. And this was just on Friday night. Shabbat day another four songs. The choir was flawless, the musical director outstanding and Cantor Herstik was unreal! I actually closed my eyes during the service and felt spiritually uplifted. Then on Shabbat late afternon I spoke to a full room about the Shabbat in Liverpool project, what it was for and why it was made. It was an outstanding Shabbat and one that will always resonate with me! It was supernaturally wonderful.
It has been awhile since I blogged and I am sorry about that - I definitely need a staff! God has blessed me with an ever creative mind and currently I have 13 projects on the back burner- And that does not include the three new projects that were released this week.
Release number one is the fourth music video from the album No Limits. This video which available on You Tube for you all to see is from the second track of the CD. The song Satisfied gives the message of the importance of being satisfied with your lot! I actually wrote the script and and co-directed the video. It was a really great experience. Just go to You Tube and type in Shlock Rock No Limits – Satisfied and it will pop up! Then make sure to buy the album or the download right here on this website!
The second release is a song that I recorded for Jonathan Pollard. You Shlockers will know that I have already written a song for Jonathan Pollard back in1999. That song How Much Longer is on the Meets The Prophets album. This new song is in Hebrew and features my second daughter Tamar as the flutist and my oldest daughter Ayelet as the sound engineer. We are going to take half the proceeds from the song and give it to charity in the hope that it redeems him. May Hashem make it happen!
The third project that is about to be released is the long awaited album A Shabbat in Liverpool! Yes folks, this project is scheduled for an end of August release although it will quite possibly be available from mid-July through this website. Do you release that this is the 32nd album? It is an exciting time for all Shlock Rock Fans as we approach our 25th anniversary!
Finally, I want to reference the 13 projects that are on the backburner! Shlock Rock is a proven tool to combat assimilation and inspire Jewish people to get closer to God and study more about their heritage. If there are investors would like to be a part of the most spiritual and exciting band in the Jewish Music History now is the time! Contact me and we will talk about how you can be a part of Shlock Rock’s Production!
The month of January is the 24th Birthday of Shlock Rock! Who would have thought that we would have a career that rivals the Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and of course Weird Al Yankovic!
We are counting down to the 25th anniversary and their is so much to do. The plans for the 25th is simple! 25 new Song Parodies for 25 Years of Shlock Rock! A new Broadway album and a new Rock album! So stay tuned everyone – the best is yet to come! And as they say in my biz – Keep on Shlocking and Feel the Emunah! Be Good Be Cool Be Jewish!
We are proud to present the second music video from the new album Shlock Rock No Limits! Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brNuntzachs and watch Walkin’ The Land. A new Middle East Country Western Song! Confused? You wont be after you watch Walkin’ The Land! Featuring the city of Bet Shemesh, Israel.
